An event aimed at raising money for an orphanage in Refilwe, South Africa took place on January 5, 2013. The first annual River Green Presents Rotary Skates for the World was organized by the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset.

Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Councillor Bill McNulty, and fellow Rotarians took part in the event. Despite being casual skaters, the Mayor and Councillor displayed their skating skills. Connaught Skating Club members delighted the crowd with their performance. Many Rotarians and their colleagues, families and friends also participated in the three-hour skate at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

This event, sponsored by River Green, is an example of River Green’s contribution to events that support charities both locally and globally. At the Appreciation Reception, Ms. Karen Tung and Mr. Gary Wong of the Aspac team presented a $5,000 cheque to the event Chair, Mrs. Magdalen Leung. As well, Aspac sponsored the venue and the related expenses. In recognition, Mayor Brodie presented Aspac with a plaque commemorating the company’s support.

Aspac, a renowned real estate developer based in Vancouver, is currently building the community of River Green next to the Richmond Olympic Oval over the next 10 to 15 years.
